Sliding on Thin Ice

This week me and the team have been discussing different game idea after our talk with the lecturer. Turns out we had too many ideas and it seemed more like a console game rather than a mobile game. As we have made many games for the pc before, it is a bit of a shock to have to create a really simple game with just one finger tap or a swipe. Another problem was that we wanted to fit to many game features on a small screen which would have made the game hard to play. Also considering the time limit we have on this project; it would be difficult to create a complex game.

From the last blog post, our game idea has changed a lot, we were thinking about creating a grid puzzle kind of game. Where you can only swipe to move in straight lines and you keep moving until you hit a block. Then when you reach the goal, you go back and the maze changes, so it was kind of like two levels in one. But we also wanted the player to leave a trail of rocks or crumbs like in Hansel and Gretel. These ideas were a bit confusing and did not makes sense. It kind of felt like we were forcing it to work.

We really liked the grid idea so after a long discussion, we came up with a really good idea of the game being based in a snowy world and the player is on an ice rink and the user swiped up, down, left and right to move and the player will slide until they hit an object on the ice rink for example some rocks. The objective will be to make it to the goal, for example, the end of the ice rink and to do it in or under a certain number of moves. We also had ideas that the player has to collect objects on the way to the end and some ice will have cracks in it that will break when the player slides on them.

It will sort of be similar looking to this game:
