FYP: The Beginning...

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

In this blog I will be documenting the progress of my final year project for university.

Welcome to my first blog post! So, during summer I have been creating a game for my individual project for my final year in university. I have decided I want to make an FPS, sci-fi/ horror in the Unity engine.

The environment is a sort of abandoned sci fi base, the whole scene is dark, there is barely any light apart from the flashlight that the player has, which only lights up what in front of them. I haven’t decided on a storyline yet but the main idea is that there was some testing done and something went wrong and now the player is trapped in the middle of the base with these scary mutants and has to find a key or a code in order to escape!

Throughout the game there are health potions and flashlight batteries scattered. The player can pick these up and use them to increase their health and to keep the flashlight working, the battery in the bottom left hand corner is a slider which indicates how much power the flashlight has, it slowly decreases in the game and will begin the flicker at 30% power and turn of at 0% so the player has to find the batteries to keep it working

In the right-hand corner of the screen, there is the amount of ammo the player has left displayed, after 50 shots the player has to reload using the 'Q' key. Underneath that, eventually, the player will be able to throw grenades, swap guns and have a limited amount of reloads.

I have listed the all features which I have implemented so far below:

Enemies:

  • Idle enemy animation.

  • Enemy has a health of 50.

  • After 5 gun shots the enemy gets destroyed.

Gun:

  • Gun shoots energy bullets.

  • The bullets have a damage of 10.

  • Gun bobs up and down when you move.

  • Ammo decreases in slider in top right-hand corner.

  • Reload ammo after 50 shots.

FPS:

  • FPS health goes down if they collide with the enemy.

  • FPS health increases if they collide with the health potion.

Flashlight:

  • Battery for the flashlight goes down in the bottom left corner, if the battery is less than 30, it will start to flicker and finally turn off at 0. The player will see nothing, which will make it harder to see where the enemies are

  • Player needs to collect flashlight batteries that are scattered around the game

I will be posting every friday to update you of my progress!
